Bio

Abner Romero recently completed his second year as the Associate Head Coach at Clackamas Community College, where he has made a significant impact in a short time. In 2024, he helped guide the Cougars to the NJCAA National Duals Championship, coaching 7 All-Americans, 2 National Champions, and a 4th-place team finish at the NJCAA National Championship. In 2025, Romero played a key role in leading Clackamas to the NJCAA National Duals Runner-Up finish, a Region 18 Conference Championship, 6 All-Americans, 2 National Champions, and a National Runner-Up finish at the NJCAA National Championship.

Originally from Clovis, California, Romero graduated from Buchanan High School, one of the nation’s top wrestling programs. A standout prep career included being a 3x CIF State place-winner, 2x NHSCA All-American, and a National Champion at 170 lbs as a senior. He finished his senior year nationally ranked No. 14 at 160 lbs and No. 55 overall in the Class of 2016.

Romero continued his career at Fresno City College, where he won a CCCAA State Championship at 174 lbs. He then transferred to Lindenwood University, becoming a 2x NCAA Division II All-American and winning the 174 lbs National Title. Romero finished his collegiate career at St. Cloud State University, where he was again an NCAA All-American, placing 2nd at the national tournament at 174 lbs. Along the way, he also captured 3 Super Region Championships. He graduated from Lindenwood in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies.
